Heritage apples from backyard orchard

With sorrow, I have to report a very upsetting development. Since these beautiful apples have lain on the ground in the heat and the drought, they have lost their delectable flavor.

But there is hope: the other heritage trees in my orchard have started to produce fruit. So maybe the apple season in my backyard will have a happy ending.

Meanwhile, the advertised apples — which are in nearly perfect condition — might make nice meals for farm and sanctuary animals, as well as all the other creatures in our midst.

Also, I made a decorative arrangement of some of the apples — and they perfume
my dining room.

In any event, please accept my deepest apologies for having advertised these apples, whose loss of flavor I discovered only this afternoon.

Sincerely,

Hilary Horton

The List-serve Advertisement

The first of our heritage trees is gushing with apples: they're all over the ground — making it almost impossible to walk! Many are still clinging to branches. Some are still ripening but lots are ready to eat or be cooked. They are delicious.

Please bring bushel baskets and take as many as you can!

To get to the apples, walk from the driveway to behind the house, on its RIGHT side. This takes you to the entrance of the orchard. Come any time, whether or not we're here.

Again, take as many as you can!
