OM System OM-3 body with 12-45mm f4 Pro lens

The first “mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system” was

pioneered by Olympus. They created the micro four thirds lens mount and

sensor format. They also made it an open standard that other manufacturers

were free to use.

A few years ago, Olympus decided to specialize in bird and wildlife

photography as their standout features. The company reorganized and became OM

System and has further pursued the wildlife strengths. The latest new camera

they have released is called the OM-3; a metal bodied, retro styled compact

mirrorless camera.

What I have for sale is an OM System factory refurbished OM-3 body

with a 12-45mm f4 Pro lens. The nature of the micro four thirds (m4/3) system

is that when comparing the lenses to a classic 35mm film camera or Full Frame

digital camera, you double the focal length of the lens. A 12-45mm zoom is

the equivalent of a 24-90mm zoom. That range is extremely versatile with the

wide angle providing coverage for tight interior spaces as well as broad

landscape vistas. The longer end is considered to be one of the ideal

portrait lens focal lengths, plus everything in between. With its compact

size, that combo is the perfect travel set. In perfect, as new condition, in

box, with warranty, I am asking $1575. New new it is on sale for $1999.

If you are looking to shoot wildlife without bullets, you are best

served with a dedicated telephoto lens. To that end I have two excellent

telephoto zooms from Leica via Lumix.

One is a Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm f2.8~4 zoom. The Full Frame

equivalent is a 100-400mm zoom and it features a fast f4 aperture at full

zoom allowing higher shutter speeds and better separation of the subject from

the background. New it goes for $1697 and I am asking $1000 - over 40% off.

For the really hard core I have a Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm

f4~6.3 zoom. The new version goes for $1597 and I am asking $775 for my used

one.

The first time I put the 100-400mm zoom on the OM-3 and pointed it as a bird,

I couldn’t believe the quality of the image. It had perfect focus and

exposure and was sharp as a tack handheld. My next “wildlife” shot was my

visiting grand-cat. Both the wildlife and bird setting will nail the focus on

the animal’s eyes if visible, on the body if not.

I took the OM-3 to the Kaleo concert with the 12-45mm and even though

I am quite unsteady on uneven ground in the dark, I got excellent concert

photos.
